Understanding The Prophetic.

(October 15, 2005)

Maybe the most wonderful and most misunderstood anointing in the Kingdom of God is the prophetic. As prophetic people and artists, it is imperative that we have a deeper understanding on how to yield to, fully appreciate, and celebrate this vital anointing in our daily work and lives.

What is a “prophetic artist,” you may ask. It is what the bible says it is when it speaks of the prophetic spirit to play, sing, dance--inspired by the prophetic spirit of God. (1 Chronicles 25)

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...(Hosea 4:6) Most people when they think about the prophetic connect it with the telling of the future--if what was foretold did not happen, it was a false prophecy--so they think without understanding that most prophesies are conditional because they depend on the people’s response to God’s prophetic word.

Of course, seeing into the future is a wonderful function of the prophetic.

Additionally, the prophetic Spirit of God does not only discern the future but also the time and the season that we are living in right now.

We need His help in order to know what to pray for, where to send missionaries, and to be sure of God’s time of visitation, in order to effectively evangelize the nations of the world. Unfortunately many Christians prayers are out of season. It is like asking God to send snow in the summer-- it’s the wrong season. It is the wrong season and it will not work. Like it says in Luke19:44: “thou knewest not the time of thy visitation” (KJV) or “because you did not come progressively to recognize and know and understand [from observation and experience] the time of your visitation” (Amplified version).

As we study the Word of God we see in the Gospels how Jesus (always led by the Spirit of God) sometimes would not do what he was asked to do by people, seeing that it was not yet his time (John 2:4). However, in Chapter John 7:6 Jesus also added that “your (the non prophetic people’s) time is always ready.”

In Matthew 16:3, Jesus reproves the religious leaders for not being able to know or discern (for lack of prophetic insight) the times.

The prophetic anointing represents the supernatural element and the very presence of God in the Kingdom, and is, therefore, the first to be rejected by religious Christianity. The prophetic represents the eyes of the Body of Christ, which without we cannot get very far in our fight of faith.

Humans have a hunger for the supernatural and that hunger will not be satisfied without the prophetic spirit of God.

In 1 Kings, there was a drought in Israel as a result of the sin of the nation which, in turn, resulted in the lack of room for the prophetic word of the Lord. Anywhere there is a spiritual drought, there is a lack of prophetic insight, and the people are just hoping and praying without spiritual understanding.

However, after the sin had been dealt with and judged (the fire) through the Word, and the prophetic Spirit of God and things had been put back into divine order, the heavens were opened again through the prophetic word and the nation was blessed (the rain). (1 Kings 18)

Everybody wants to get blessed, but first we must allow the Word and the Spirit to judge us so we can get rid of sin and restore divine order into our lives, families, churches, and nations. (Hebrews 4:16)
